What makes Chinese-CHINESE?

Received an email from friend few days back. quite interesting to read this content. I gave my answers in return.

**

What makes Chinese-CHINESE?

Please check the list to see how Chinese you or your friends really are:

There are 29 ways to know if you're Chinese. You will laugh at
yourself when you read all of them.

1. You unwrap gifts very carefully, so you can save and reuse the
wrapping (and especially those ribbons).
Ans: No. I unwrap gifts in few seconds, and through all paper and ribbons.

2. When there is a sale on toilet paper, you buy 100 rolls and store
them in your closet or in the bedroom of an adult child who has moved out.
Ans: I don't even use toilet paper.

3. You keep a Thermos of hot water available at all times.
Ans: this wastes electricity. I don't do this at all.

4.. You save grocery bags, tin foil, and tin containers. You use the
grocery bags to hold garbage.
Ans: i throw all, but grocery bags can recycle and then i keep some.

5. You hate to waste food:
(a) Even if you're totally full, if someone says they're going to
throw away the leftovers on the table, you'll finish them. (Your mom will
give a lecture about starving kids in Africa ).
Ans: i buy food that i can finish. i didn't keep into refrig.

(b) You have Tupperware in your fridge with three bites of rice or
one leftover chicken wing.
Ans: Not at all.

6. You don't own any real Tupperware- only a cupboard full of used
but carefully rinsed margarine tubs, take out containers, and jam jars.
Ans: I have one good tupperware. and i throw all used tubs, containers and jars.

7. You have a collection of miniature shampoo bottles that you take every
time you stay in a hotel.
Ans: Yes. Once i used it, and i throw away. I didn't collect it.

8. You wipe your plate and utensils or wash them in a small basin of
hot water before you eat every time you go to a restaurant..
Ans: Yes. this is true. :)

11. You fight (literally) over who pays the dinner bill.
Ans: Not at all. I just lay back and wait people to fight for the dinner bill and i enjoy seeing this picture.

12. You have a tea cup with a cover on it.
Ans: Not at all. I have Starbuck coffee cup.

13. If you're under age 20, you own a really expensive walkman if
you're over 20, you own a really expensive camera.
Ans: I didn't have an expensive walkman when i was young. and after 35, i own a reeeeeally expensive camera, indeed.

14. You're a wok user..
Ans: yes, when i'm at grandmum house.

15. You only make long distance calls after 7pm.
Ans: You catch me! haha.

16. You prefer your shrimp with the heads and legs still attached-it,
means they're fresh.
Ans: true.

17. You never call your parents just to say, ' Hi. '
Ans: not applicable for me.

18. If you don't live at home, when your parents call, they'll ask
if you've eaten, even if it's midnight..
Ans: foolish parents.

19. Your parents tell you to boil herbs and stay indoors when you
get sick. They also tell you not to eat fried foods or baked foods
because such food are ' heaty' (yeet hey in Cantonese).
Ans: not only applicable to parents, this version is to all chinese.

20. You e-mail your Chinese friends at work, even though you only
sit 10 feet apart.
Ans: Not at all.

21. You always cook too much.
Ans: Not at all. I never waste food like that.

22. You eat every last grain of rice in your bowl, but don't eat the
last piece of food on the table.
Ans: Not true for me also.

23. You starve yourself before going to ' All You Can Eat ' buffet.
Ans: You catch me!!! haha.

24. You know someone who can get you a good deal on jewelry or
electronics, computers.
Ans: i don't have such good lobang.

25 . You own your own meat cleaver and sharpen it.
Ans: I dont' have any.

26. Your toothpaste tubes are all squeezed paper-thin.
Ans: Not so exaggerated. I just try one time to squeeze it.

27. You call a sausage a hotdog.
Ans: ya Ya ya...

28. You wrap with napkins all the knives, spoons and forks of the
airline that you fly on and put in your travel-bag as souvenirs
Ans: NOT ME! this is only for those Kiasu Chinese.

29. You never forget to take with you all the unused bath and facial
tissues when you check out from the hotel because you
believe that you have paid for it all.
Ans: Sometime, if i go to second destination and i may need it. but, i have personally witness friends even taking ALL toilet paper rolls and telling me that he has paid for it ALL!

***

Out of 29 description, i'm only in for 7. I think it is too skeptical to descripe Chinese in such sarcastic way.

I'm proud to be Chinese but these above mentioned statement are totatlly not making me Chinese.

以量:I do not think whether you are chinese or not is not a issue..but in this society is more to KIASU attitude.........inorder to meet the competitive industry, parents tend to want their kid to be the best of the best...I believe not all pple are kiasu...but they must be a reason why human being as kiasu...might be of the society pressure..

I do think is more to culture problem...

中国哲学是“智慧”的集结,主要由谚语和故事构成,以鼓励人们采取某种生活方式。

人的侈欲是永远无法被满足的。

No pain, no gain...:))

http://www.singaporehospice.org.sg/7.4_providersandservices.htm

let me answer these one by one.

1. I thought you mentioned about gaggle propolis for cancer patient who has painful throat. Did I recall correctly?
No. Gaggle propolis liquid is for those patients who has wounds in mouth. not for managing the pain of the throat, but is for the mouth and the lips. especial the dryness and wounded parts. Please refer to the hospice doctor to manage the pain.

2. How much propolis to be used for gaggling purpose?
It depends. you can follow the instruction when you purchase propolis liquid.

3. can the person swallow it after gaggling?
follow the instruction of the product. normally, it is healthy enough. because BUT, before you purchase, please consult the nurses first. because i didn't see the patients directly, i am NOT supposed to give any instruction. Please refer to the nurse's or doctor's advices.

4. Do you know of any type of food to take when the time is closer?
Please check with the doctors, or the nurses. normally, please avoid those foods which are rich in fibre so to avoid constipation. Don't give so much food for the dying patients.
Reading material that helps you and your families: http://www.guangming.com.my/node/100654?tid=8

5. Do you know which hospice the family can approach for help?
Firstly, please check with the oncologist whether the patient can be reffered to hospices. then, the oncologist will help to fill up referral form on behalf of the patient to the preferred hospice. They know what to do in the hospital, you don't need to give special instruction, once you request it. Patients can choose to have either home-care hospice service or inpatient hospice. below are the webpage link for all hospices in Singapore. Please inform your prefered hospice to the oncologist.

http://www.singaporehospice.org.sg/7.4_providersandservices.htm
Please click one by one to browse all the details.

6. do you know of any helpful company that offers affordable funeral service?
more or less the same. unlike Malaysia, there is big gap for the services. They all are almost sharing the similar costs and offers.
here you go the webpage link for your further info. You MUST check all these to know all the action when patient is dying in Singapore.
http://www.nea.gov.sg/passesaway/when.htm
http://www.nea.gov.sg/passesaway/arrange.htm
http://www.nea.gov.sg/passesaway/afd.htm

I could recall what i shared with you all in the training session, Hospices in Malaysia are far behind the system in Singapore. All the info are so well-written in Singapore. There is a large room for improvement in Malaysia. Let's make it better.

regards

Yee Leong
